thinking about Ratio tutoring Aventurine, sorry class
i think it makes sense to assume that Jade would get Aventurine a tutor when he first joined the Stonehearts, because he’d need to know basic math / reading / writing to do his job, but I still headcanon that he wouldn’t be a very strong reader and he’d be lowkey insecure about it. I just dont think they had the time or resources to properly teach him when he was young and then once he was enslaved forget it, in fact I’d argue (since I also headcanon him w the CPTSD/BPD combo meal) the insane trauma he experienced over and over might have impeded his memory, attention, and executive functions (if parts of his brain like the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex weren’t able to properly develop) not saying that happens to every severely traumatized person, but it’s a real possibility and I think when you add it on to the fact that he probably never had formal education, it definitely wouldn’t be helping him. Also, it’s hard as hell to learn things like reading / writing when you’re a grown adult. So, that’s where my headcanon comes from. While I do think he’s very naturally intelligent and he’d get the hang of the basics, I think he’d struggle more than he likes to admit. I think math might come a little easier to him because he can physically touch it when he’s gambling, he got good at counting and adding / subtracting because he does it all the time with chips and cards, and he’s so obsessed with money, I think that would be an incentive. But reading ?? Maybe not as much.
